The central story follows Jumong, the son of Haemosu and Lady Yuhwa, who is raised in the palace of Buyeo by King Geumwa as his stepson. Initially portrayed as a weak, cowardly, and immature prince, Jumong is constantly scorned and overshadowed by his ambitious "half-brothers," Daeso and Youngpo, who vie for the Buyeo throne.
